Glass is made of naturally from a fusions of silica (sand), soda and lime. This fusion can be achieved only by lightning striking in a place where the right ingredients happen to be adjacent to each other. When glass is made by man, other ingredients are added, such as potash, lead oxide and boric oxide. Some of these ingredients are used to make glass clear, some to color it, and others to give it a frosted effect. İn nature there are two different glasses which are known as Obsidyen and Rock Crystal ( Necef).
According to the ancient-Roman historian Pliny , Phoenician merchants transporting stone actually discovered glass, in the region of Anatolia around 5000 BC. Pliny tells how the merchants, after landing, rested cooking pots on blocks of nitrate placed by their fire. With the intense heat of the fire, the blocks eventually melted and mixed with the sand of the beach to form an opaque liquid.
The technic of FLOAT ( flotation) which was discovered in 1960’s can be described as the conception af glass processing. Float glass which consists of solution hardens liquid glass dough which creates an excellent substructure for subsidiary processes. Glass has been used for various kinds of bottles , mirrors, windows and more for many years. Although we can cut , buckle , satirize and cover ; with some special processes we can also use glasses for security, sunlight protection and for decorative purposes.
